Vytal now partner of large gastro chains for reusable solutions: After burgerme roll-out, pilot project starts with Domino's

12.09.2022

Today at 8:15 p.m. on the VOX startup show "Die Höhle der Löwen", investor Dr. Georg Kofler visits Vytal, a company for reusable packaging, and congratulates the team on the milestone of saving more than 4 million disposable packages as well as the new partnership with the market-leading pizza chain Domino's Pizza.

"The team of Vytal is doing a phenomenal job. The amount of disposable packaging we've saved has increased eight hundredfold since the pitch. More and more large restaurant chains are realizing that they are saving money with Vytal and at the same time doing something good not only for the environment but also for their guests. For me as an investor, this is a wonderful sense of achievement," says Dr. Georg Kofler enthusiastically.

"Despite challenges such as staff shortages and rising prices, sustainability remains an important topic in the food services industry. We are proud that the two major players in the industry, burgerme and Domino's Pizza, have opted for our deposit-free reusable system. With the requirement to offer reusable containers coming into force on 1 January 2023, we expect more large gastro chains to opt for Vytal's reusable solution and our wide range of containers in the coming weeks," adds Dr. Tim Breker, co-founder and CEO of Vytal.

Vytal has developed a burger box for burgers and fries in cooperation with burgerme

The simple digital mutiple-use system from Vytal with its deposit-free handling convinced the Munich-based company burgerme right from the start. Having the same goal in mind, burgerme and Vytal have partnered to ensure that also burgers and fries in reusable containers stay hot and crispy. The reusable burger box, initially tested in Hanover and Berlin, convinced customers of the burger specialist with its own delivery service, so that the Vytal reusable system is currently being expanded to more than 130 locations throughout Germany.

Two-month pilot project with Vytal to pave the way for nationwide reusable roll-out
After extensive testing of the Vytal pizza packaging manufactured by PIZZycle at the Hamburg headquarters of Domino's Pizza, Matthias Struck is the first franchise partner in Paderborn to test the environmentally friendly reusable containers for collected orders. For his guests, the use of the reusable pizza containers is free of charge. To borrow them without paying a deposit, guests simply scan the container-specific QR codes using the Vytal app. Afterwards, the Vytal app also reminds them to return the borrowed containers within 14 days. The faster the containers are returned, the more disposable pizza boxes they can replace. The goal of the pilot is to use learnings to pave the way for a nationwide roll-out of the Vytal reusable system.

Vytal offers a comprehensive range of reusable containers and individual returnable solutions for the food services industry.

With reusable pizza boxes, burger boxes, sushi containers, partitioned meal trays and Blue Angel award-winning reusable trays and coffee cups, Vytal has the most comprehensive range of reusable containers for the food services industry, which can also keep its own reusable containers circulated using Vytal’s technology. With a 99.3% return rate and a return time of less than four days, Vytal is more efficient than the German bottle deposit system. In addition, all customers and restaurateurs can see live in the app by how much they have already reduced single-use waste. In total, Vytal has already replaced over 4.3 million disposable containers (as of September 2022).

When the founders of VYTAL ventured into Die Höhle der Löwen in its 8th season, Georg Kofler was immediately impressed by their business idea and invested 450,000 Euros with the Food Chain GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of Social Chain AG. In a very short time, the start-up established itself as the market leader for sustainable food packaging with its app-based multiple-use system. In February 2021, Social Chain AG increased its investment in VYTAL GmbH by a further 300,000 Euros.
